Case Study
112 Tons Pellet Carbon Shipped to Norway for Biogas
We recently completed a 112-ton shipment of coal-based pellet activated carbon to a biogas plant in Norway. The carbon is KOH-impregnated, designed specifically for H₂S removal in biogas upgrading systems.

Here's what the order looked like.
Order Summary
| Product | 4mm coal-based pellet activated carbon, KOH-impregnated |
| Quantity | 112 tons |
| Application | Biogas purification — H₂S removal |
| Destination | Norway |
| Packaging | 700 kg jumbo bags (FIBC) on pallets |
| Containers | 4 × 40HQ |
| Port of Loading | Tianjin, China |
Why KOH-Impregnated Carbon for Biogas
Raw biogas from anaerobic digestion contains H₂S — typically 500 to 5,000 ppm depending on the feedstock. H₂S is corrosive. It damages engines, turbines, and upgrading membranes. It has to go before the gas can be used.
KOH-impregnated pellet carbon handles this well. The potassium hydroxide on the carbon surface reacts chemically with H₂S, not just physically adsorbing it. That means higher removal capacity per unit volume and longer bed life compared to non-impregnated carbon.
4mm pellets are the standard choice for biogas vessels — good balance between surface contact and pressure drop across the bed.

Packaging
For this order, we used 700 kg FIBC jumbo bags, palletized for stable stacking and easy forklift handling at the receiving end. The bags are UV-resistant, double-stitched, with lifting loops rated for crane operation.
Palletizing adds stability during the truck ride to Tianjin Port and the ocean crossing. Desiccant packs go inside each container to control moisture during 30+ days at sea.

Loading & Shipping
112 tons split across 4 × 40HQ containers. Bags were palletized at our facility, loaded onto flatbed trucks, and transported to Tianjin Port for container stuffing. Each container was secured with cross-straps and inspected before sealing.
We handle the full export documentation: commercial invoice, packing list, COA per container, MSDS, certificate of origin. If the customer needs SGS or Intertek inspection, we arrange that too.

From Inquiry to Delivery
| Inquiry & sample request | Week 1 |
| Sample testing at customer site | Week 2–3 |
| Order confirmed | Week 4 |
| Production completed | Week 6 |
| Container loading & departure | Week 7 |
| Arrival in Norway | Week 11 |
The customer tested our samples against their existing media before placing the full order. That's the process we recommend — no surprises when 112 tons show up at your plant.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is KOH-impregnated activated carbon used for?
Primarily for removing H₂S from biogas, landfill gas, and industrial gas streams. The KOH coating enables chemical adsorption of H₂S, giving significantly higher removal capacity than non-impregnated carbon.
What is the minimum order quantity for pellet activated carbon?
Our standard MOQ is one 20-foot container (~20 tons). For first-time buyers, we can arrange smaller trial orders of 1–5 tons at adjusted pricing. Samples are free.
How long does shipping take from China to Europe?
Ocean freight from Tianjin to Northern European ports (Rotterdam, Hamburg, Oslo) takes approximately 30–35 days. Production lead time is typically 2–3 weeks depending on quantity.
